The smell of rotting food lured Cupcake off the main road. Food was the highest motivation to getting anything done with her. Her paw pads were so sore...they were cracking from the wear and tear the cement had caused. Slowly she came to a stop and lifted her nose into the air and sat down. Inhaling deeply, the pup tried to pinpoint the exact location of her prize to no avail. Letting out a sigh she lifted her weary body and proceeded to squeeze under a gate.
Once through the gate Cupcake scanned her surroundings looking for any thing that might pose a threat. After giving a second sideways glance at the carousel horses she assumed they meant no harm. No matter how much they glared at her presence. How will I survive without the man to feed me? Was the thought that was plaguing her mind. Food was of the utmost importance at this very moment. A light breeze from the northwestern sky gave her a hint of hope. The winds had carried the scent of food to her once again. Loping towards the smell she found herself staring at a huge metal box. She knew what the dumpster was, she just had to find a way in.
Whining loudly she frantically searched for a platform so she could reach the top. After several mintues her hunger pains subsided enough for her to be able to focus on the task at hand. There was a small door on the side of the dumpster and she hoisted herself onto her back legs and peered through a slit on the side of the small door. The scent was strongest through the slit. Quivering with excitement her long muzzle smacked against the door. It slid open a fraction of the way. A yelp of accomplishment came out her mouth as she started hopping on her rear legs until she climbed her way inside of the dumpster.
What a feast I have come upon. Maybe I should stick around awhile longer and see what else I can find.
Growling softly as she ate the dumpster's bounty Cupcake gradually ate her fill and leaped out of the dumpster. Licking her chops contentedly she contemplated what to do next. A few droplets fell from the sky and hit her softly on her narrow head. Dark clouds gathered together and blocked out the sun, while distant thunder sounded. Pacing around the grounds of the fair Cupcake wriggled her way under a ride's deck. The wind howled around her and the rain soon dampened the ground she had been lying on. Feeling the wet ground Cupcake decided to find a more elevated shelter.
She soon found herself running back to the carousel. It had a roof and a raised deck. Although she felt uneasy under the baleful stares of the horses she was dry and had a full belly. That was all that mattered to her. Sliding into a full stretch she collapsed onto her side and began to lick her dry and cracked paw pads. The soothing sensation eventually lulled her into a deep slumber...When she awoke her basic survival needs would have to be met.
