The paws belongued to a ash grey dog, elegant and graceful. Her statuesque body curved nicely into her muscled hindquarters, and her long narrow pillars moved with grace. Her lope had spring in it's step and her tail was held high, a dark grey flag wavering in the light breeze of the late afternoon. Jaws hanging slightly open, tongue lolling out on the side in the heat, Tovaritch Evengenii was exploring this new town. It was very nice, not too many people and great scenery.
Toned muscles rippled under her short as she strutted down a deserted lane. Old buildings were on the side, some inhabited, others not. Cars were parked on the road, making it narrow. It was way enough space for the dark grey Saluki to move. Her pillars accelerated their back and forth movements to a light trot. The bright blue optics wavered from one side of the road to the other, looking for something of interest. As she made her way, relaxed, she registered landmarks in her mind, wanting to discover this new town. She actually thought she could establish herself here.
She turned into a larger road, just as deserted as the previous one. A distant roar captured her attention, and she turned around, cocking her head to identify it. It was a large car coming at high speed her way. She sauntered in a very feminine way to ther other side of the road. The car passed, blowing dust into the air. She shook her feathered pelt and continued on her way, the distant ocean scent wafting to her nostrils. The sound of crashing waves entered her ears. She accelerated to a galop and after a few minutes, arrived to a lovely cliff, obviously artificial, but beautiful all the same.
Geni slipped across the road, gracefully coming to a stop at the very edge of the cliff. Her long pillars folded underneath her and her body came in contact with the ground. Her head rested on her paws, and her oceanic eyes followed the waves as they crashed and frothed on the beach. Her tail flickered back and forth, ears, eyes and nose drinking in the lovely scene. Her lonely heart longed for company She wondered about it as she lay there, saphire eyes scanning the sea.

The topic of humans could be quite a contrasting one indeed, especially to the kind-hearted mutt who got all sorts of treatment from the varied groups of people. Some were good to him, patting his head and giving him things to eat in sympathy for his demented leg, slightly shriveled and tucked in under his body. Some kept their distance in fear because of his muscular large size, larger than any dog of the breeds that contributed to his bloodline, something which was a bit of a mystery. His sister had often said his size was compensation for not being able to use one of his needed limbs. Though the muscularity of his body was due to constant movement and strain to be able to keep up with others and survive, there was no doubt that this dog was powerful despite his disability.
But there were others, humans with malicious souls who tormented the poor brute just because they thought he was weak. They'd kick him in misplaced anger, or push him around or shout cruel words at him. Those were the sorts of humans that he ignored or tried to avoid though one couldn't know the nature of a person until you got close to them and by then it was sometimes already too late. Which had been the case on this day. Some young men, who had most likely been drinking or done something of the sort, had decided to make it a game to see what they could do with the stray. Scooter had put up with it, being as submissive as he could be in the hopes they'd leave him be, but it hadn't worked in his favor and instead he had ended up being thrown into the water.
Scooter could defend himself without a doubt but he didn't have any reason to bite them, even if they were harsh in their behavior towards him. He had accepted their treatment but was grateful when they left him after he hit the water, bored with their game and heading off to look for something new to amuse themselves with. The dog's heavy body was pulled under the water from his sheer weight and for a moment his head went under but he kicked with his three working legs, treading water and pushing himself up so he could breathe while he slowly made his way to the edge with some difficulty, emerging out of the water onto some stones at the base of the man-made cliff, back legs pushing against the stone to try and get himself up while his one front paw clung to another rock and pulled. It took some effort to get his soaked self onto the rocks completely and then more effort to find a path to climb to the top but once he was there he sighed in relief, letting his head hang low for a moment as he tried to catch his breath so he could shake the water from his coat. He didn't notice anything around him, his eyes closing.

The only inhibitors to that were the loud voices of a few young humans males, who obviously lacked a bit of reason. Their steps were awkward as her sapphire gaze surveyed from a distance, wondering what was the object of their anger. The sounds of paw steps could be heard over the racket they were producing. Her feathered ears swiveled forward to capture the sounds, and her cranium lifted in alertness. In the light breeze coming her way, she detected the masculine scent of another stray.
Her intense occs only saw the brute when the men threw him in the water. Her muscles coiled and launched her gracefully onto her feet, as she watched the muscular stray fighting to stay afloat. "Ay, you all right there brother?" her Scottish accent tinting her words as she yelled them, although knowing he probably wouldn't hear her due to the crashing waves and the whistling wind. She often called everyone brother or sister, believing in equality. It was also a habit, picked up from her father, who called everyone either brother or sister. Deep sea orbs concentrated on the brute as he clambered onto shore, visibly tired and with some difficulty.
It was when he arrived onto safe land that she saw what was making it so difficult. One of his front limbs was reduced slightly, and clearly unusable. Her compassion seemed to extend a tendril out of her mind, straining to touch the heavily-built male. She searched for a way to get down, but her shy nature held her back. Her head dropped down low, her eyes keeping their hold on the figure slowly moving up the cliff. When he did arrive, she perfectly understood the sigh of relief he let out, her eyes softening. Hesitation could clearly be seen in her position, her muscles tensing, and her limbs pacing slightly.
Finally, compassion won over shyness, and she gracefully made her way over, tail wagging very slightly. Her head down, she stopped a few feet from him. " 'You okay brother?" the lush velvety sound tinted with the unique hint of the North of the British Isles. Her hind limbs bent, her rump coming in contact with the concrete. Her head cocked to the side, awaiting the stocky stray's answer.

His lungs were burning slightly due to him having swallowed and inhaled some of the salty water in his flailing but he had caught his breath again and his racing heart had calmed as his body returned to its normal functions but before he could shake the water dripping from his short golden tan coat a voice broke through his tiredness and thoughts, making him quickly open his eyes and raise his head to look at the slender dog in front of him in slight surprise. It wasn't like him to not notice someone approach, but then he guessed he might not have heard her because his ears were probably full of water too, another reason to shake himself. But he couldn't be rude and do that so close to the female in case he got her wet because of it.
"I'm alright, a swim never hurt anyone." He commented, his voice deep and filled with friendly warmth as he spoke, showing no ill feelings towards the humans or what they'd done to him. "Excuse me for a second." He spoke again but with a slightly apologetic tone to his voice this time before he turned and slowly made his way a short distance from her before he shook his body vigorously to rid any water from it. He was thinking how lucky he was that his coat was short and the water didn't stay on it too long, unlike when Artemis, his sister, got wet. With her long coat she seemed to take forever to dry out usually.
When he was done he turned and made his way back to the female, sitting down in front of her with his deformed paw still tucked to his body, he couldn't straighten it at all even though he had tried before. "I'm Scooter." He told her, remembering his manners and introducing himself. He was anything but a rude dog, he was too kind hearted and respectful to be mean or rude. A gentleman if that's what you want to call him. His dark brown eyes remained on her features while he waited patiently for her to introduce herself and choose whether or not to pursue some meaningless small talk or to leave and continue what she had been doing. Scooter didn't mind either way, he was used to others not wanting to be around him.

Geni listened as his heart slowed, his fur dripping with the salty water. It's smell was overwhelming, the salt burning the inside of her nose and making her want to sneeze. Her manners stopped her from doing so, and as the male looked up with some surprise, a friendly smile spread on her features. The intense ocean hue of her occuli still held the worry she felt, her motherly instinct shining through. She remembered when she was watching the children in her old family swimming, always fearing they would drown by mistake. They had what seemed to be an enormous bowl full of water that smelled funny, which they called a pool.
It had been much fun playing with the humans in there, although something in the shimmering water burned her eyes and nose. She didn't mind though, she only had to give her fur a good shake and the water would go away. Salty water seemed to have the same effect on the nose, in a more painful way. Her thoughts were interupted by the golden male, who assured her he was fine. She smiled, the worry leaving her blue eyes. He hadn't exactly intended to find himself in the water, she thought, he was thrown in. You could call that a forced bath. He excused himself for a second, and she watched as he walked away and shook his fur.
She used that time for a discreet sneeze, getting the salty scent out of her nose. It was much better. He came back, sitting in front of her. He introduced himself as Scooter, and she wondered about that interesting name. She smiled warmly, he was definitely a gentleman, and he was very friendly. It was rare she thought, to find a stray that was both friendly and polite. She didn't make him linger, answering on a Scottish tinted warm tone. "I'm Tovaritch Evengenii, but to shorten that ridiculously long name, you can call me Geni." her charming soprano pronounced.
"Those humans weren't very friendly." she noted, hoping to continue the conversation. She hadn't had company in a while, and she was looking to meet new canines in this new town.
