Jofur's Bio“Truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget.” Paws; sinking into the soft sand near the large lake. The paws were a canine's paws. The dog was a large sized mutt. Floppy ears, a long tail. The dog stopped; staring at the shallow end of the water. Darting below the surface was a small fish. A silver fish. It zipped and taunted the mutt. Curled his lips back; the mutt growled softly. Footsteps; he got closer. Cold water engulfed his front paws. Tail high. Ears perked. Eyes locked intensely on the victim that swam in the shallows. The male held one paw above the fish, which swam in circles. Paw slashed down, hit the side of the fish. And launched the fish forward. The fish didn't go far, it flung in the air, landing a few feet closer to the shore. The mutt got excited and lunged forward. The silver aquatic animal squirmed, and managed to get into deeper water... and swim far from the mutt.
The mix breed stared. And shrugged it off, he wasn't that hungry anyway. The mutt's name was Jofur, which was the name of the Roman God of Thunder. But Jofur wasn't exactly was his name meant. He was more like a timid and shy one. Didn't speak a whole lot. The male walked of of the water, as he walked upon the shore sand stuck to his paw pads. Jofur looked at the mountains around him, he panted softly. He heard birds chirping. It was about noon. The sun hung proudly bright in the slightly cloudy sky. Birds swung in he sky and spiraled downward and upwards repeatedly. Jofur walked further from the lake. Grass became the ground, instead of sand. The mutt sleepily walked to a nearby broadleaf tree. Jofur circled slowly, often pawing at the ground. He circled about seven times before finally plopping down on the grass. His vanished vanished as he sniffed the slight breeze. The breeze carried a heavy scent of pine and broadleaf trees. And pure, fresh water.
Jofur may have been a stray, but he didn't call himself homeless. He considered this place to be his home. It's where an old dog brought him to hunt and fish. The elder was like a father or grandparent. The old dog's name was Eslim. Eslim was very old, and very wise. He knew many things; and passed his knowledge on to Jofur. Jofur knew his friend for a year, but it felt like a lifetime. Once Eslim died, Jofur felt alone. But after a while he didn't as lonely around the lake. He swam in the lake everyday. And always became strong and more skilled at hunting. Always using techniques that Eslim had shown him. Memorized them, and if Jofur ever had a family, he would pass them on.
After laying down for three minutes or so. Jofur stood slowly. His gaze was lazy, he walked over to the clear water, sand in his paws. He crouched down, just where the water didn't touch his damp paws. His tongue slithered out of his mouth quickly to lap up water. The first time he swallowed he felt a relief in his mouth and it traveled to his stomach. After a long drink; Jofur lifted his head-- to look back at the spot he had been laying. Jofur liked his maw, the warm air made his mouth feel even more cold. Jofur lifted the front half of his body-- so he was now sitting. A few water dripped off his chin. He wagged his tail, he was happy here. His light brown eyes scanned the scenery; he decided to lay where the grass was very lush. Just near the sand. He stood up and walked over to the tall grass, he circled about five circles before laying down with a soft thud. He huffed and sighed as he laid there near the tree, near the water.
Jofur was indeed happy here. He laid his head down between his paws, his eyes stayed alert and open. His ears relaxed. His muscles were the opposite of tense. Jofur breathed calmly. He lifted his head and licked his jowls and his wet nose. His tongue was cold and made his nose feel colder. He was very relaxed. His eyes were focused on the landscape in front of him; the lake, mountains, trees, and birds flying and darting in the noon sky. The clouds had no sign of rain anytime soon. Jofur liked rain, but he liked sunny days as well.

She padded along the lake's muddy edge, admiring the lillies that dappled the water's surface. The day was warm, but not too hot as it had been th past few weeks. Her eyes darted around the lake's edge, searching for food, company, anything really. The mud was exspecially slick on this part of the banks, Katniss lent a wary eye to make sure she didn't slip into the lake. It was a steep drop from here. She wasn't too sure on her swimming skills and didn't really feel like testing them out today.
She was hungry, so hungry. The pain gnawed at her insides and her head felt cloudy. She'd been hungry before, and Katniss knew that this was the beginings of the disease hunger brought. She shook her head roughly trying to clear her head of the fuzz that was growing. She carefully picked her way down to the water at a less trecherous looking slope and drank deeply. The water was lukewarm and tasted of algae, and did little to help her head. She continued down the edge of the lake, watching the steep drop of the bank slope gently into flatness. She could now see all the way to the horizen.
Katniss was stopped short by the strong scent of fish. Scales littered the ground and Katniss noticed that the bank had become less muddy and more ground-like. Her mind still wasn't workng quite the way it normally did so when Katniss say the sleeping mutt on the grass she instantly thought of Spike. Spike. Her first real friend and only mentor.
The other dog was apparently sleeping soundly and Katniss was overwhelmed by a sudden wave of nostalgia. Maybe this dog was friendly, she thought happily. Or, the dark voice in her head said, or he's vicious and he'll attack you for trespassing on his territory. Katniss wasn't quite sure where she got the "he". But the dog's scent was strongly masculine.
She decided to wait this stranger out. She curled up a few yards away from him and rested her head on her damp paws. She tried to keep her eyes open, but the cloud in her head was taking over the rest of her body.

Jofur slept near the spaling, unaware that another dog had come up and rested nearby, in front of him. After sleeping for another fifteen or so minutes, he was awake, but his eyes remained closed. After a while of resting there, awake, he noticed a canine's scent, maybe. His eyes opened slowly. Ears perked. The scent was that of a female canine. Jofur lifted his head, but still laid. He suddenly felt an urge to walk over and greet her, but he was uneasy about it. He stayed where he laid. He began wondering how she got here, and why she laid near him.
As thoughts raced around in his mind; Jofur stood up. He didn't walk closer, he just stood and observed this canine. Jofur lurched out his leg and sniffed the air, trying to smell her scent a little better. He huffed, breathing in. Then sneezed, waving his head. He bowed, stretching his back, and forearms. His jaws opened wide as he yawned. As he finished bowing, he stood up then stretched his hindlegs. He grunted slightly, as he stretched out. Curiousity got the best of him, Jofur took three or so steps closer. Tilting his head.
His tail began to sway back and forth, so maybe the dog would see that and know he wouldn't harm them... and maybe they wouldn't harm him.

The shadow over Katniss woke her, she blinked and tried to remember why she was laying on the ground with this ominous shadow looming over her. She sniffed the air and was greeted by the scent of dog. The dog, she was by the lake! She looked up to see a medium sized male dog. She geussed he was a pitbull of some kind. He was waggng his tail though, which must be a good sign, she thought wryly. Katniss took a quick inventory of her surroundings just in case she had to make a break for it. One, her head felt much better after the quik nap she'd stolen. Second, the area was basically clear all around except for the lake to one side. A few trees dotted the clear land around, and weaving in and out of them ducks, geese and squirrels. The place practically screamed peace and serenity. Katniss cast her gaze towards the lake, it shone brightly, reflecting the sun with such brilliance Katniss had to look away. There was no where else to look so Katniss looked back at the dog standing above her. She tried to look meek, harmless and adressed the dog. "Erm, hi there. I'm Katniss, Sorry to wake you, I mean I didn't wake you but I don't think you would've woken up unless I'd stayed here..." She finished lamely, trailing off. She tended to babble when nervous. She hoped the dog wouldn't attack her for being on his turf.

Jofur watched as the dog awoke. Jofur's ears perked, his body tensed slightly. But his tail still wagged happily. He smirked as the dog looked at him, then looked around the place. Jofur stood a few yards away, still. He watched as the dog spoke. She apologized. Jofur thought that there was no need for her to apologize. So he spoke his mind. "You do not need to apologize, miss. This land is for all canines and such to share. I do not mind if you rest here." he spoke, he was still a bit uneasy, and it could easily have been read by someone. Jofur smiled politely at her.
Jofur looked around the place, he saw ducks and geese soaring, through the clear sky. Then land gracefully on the water. Jofur watched the the avians for a minute or two, then returned his attention to the dog in front of him. His eyes were gentle and welcoming, his tail still wagging. With a smile upon his face.
Jofur had a good feeling about this dog, but if she actually decided to attack, Jofur would have to book it. And his first plan was to jump in the water, maybe she couldn't swim... so he could swim for safety. But if she could swim, then he would just have to zig zag through trees and such.
Jofur still smiled happily, his eyes watching, his ears listening. Then he realized he didn't introduce himself. "Ah, yes, I am Jofur, Katniss," he dipped his head, "It's a pleasure to meet you." Jofur grinned, as a friendly gesture.

The dog, who'd introduced himself as Jofur, was actually quite gracious. Chivalrous. Polite. All these words Katniss wasn't really used to applying to another dog. Sure other dogs had let her stay a night here and there but they had just been tolerating her, it felt like this do-, Jofur really wanted her to stay.
Jofur had said it was a pleasure to meet her, Katniss wasn't quite sure he genuinely meant that, he'd just met her! How could he know it was a pleasure? She might bite his nose off right now... Not that she would though, she liked Jofur's friendly attitude to wards her.
Katniss wasn't really sure how to start up a sturdy conversation, so she went with some questions. "Err, thanks. So this isn't your turf or anything? Anyone can come here?" She thought back to the scales on the ground and the fishy scent. Her stomach rumbled. She glanced back at the lake, it's surface still serene and undisturbed. She turned her attention back to wards Jofur. "Are the fish here easy to catch?" She licked her muzzle, she hoped they were. She didn't know what she'd do if she couldn't get food soon. Then again, she didn't want to look weak or needy in front of another canine, ex specially one who looked so well fed. "I mean, just wondering."

My body is a cage... Below is Shepherd, 4 years old. "The fish are easy to catch..." he responds to the question clearly asked for another dog. His muscles tensed as he noticed that the two dogs were together. "Uhm, so... why are you here?" "I mean i've been traveling for a while and no one will bring me hospitality, can i stay here for a while?

click for profile Katniss turned at the sound of another dog. She watched wearily as a large sheperd approached her and Jofur. The mud on feet was drying and it made her toes itch. She looked around at Jofur and gave him a questioning look. Was this some strange plan of his? Was he trying to lull Katniss into a false sense of security and then pull the carpet out from under her feet, attcking her with this other dog? She stood took a few steps backwards, making sure she was facing all the dogs so none would have the element of surprise on her.
"The fish are easy to catch..."
That was the newcomer. His scent was masculine, and he was large with colorful fur. Katniss eyed him wearily, she really didn't want to get into a fight with this large male. She was small. She wouldn't get out easily. But maybe she could run for it now... She was probably faster then both of the dogs here. When the newcomer spoke again she was so startled she twitched nervously.
"Uhm, so... why are you here?" "I mean i've been traveling for a while and no one will bring me hospitality, can i stay here for a while?"
She eyed him. He didn't seem like he was going to pick a fight. But Katniss had a feeling this question wasn't directed at her. This wasn't her lake.
"I don't think this place belongs to anyone," Katniss said carefully. She glanced at Jofur, hoping she'd said the right thing. She really didn't want to fight anyone today.

"This place doesn't belong to anyone." said the partly shocked stranger. "Uhm..." that question caught him offguard. He was nervous, sweating, nervous. "Does, anyone l-live here?" he said stuttering it wasn't like him to stutter. He was shocked. he knew he was a big dog but it sometimes was a little hard for him to be threatening. "I'm- i'm Sh- Shepherd an- an australian cattle dog, who- who are you. Sorry it's not like me to be nervous." it really wasn't like him at all to be nervous, he was just unfamiliar with kind strangers. I'm a pug in a giants body.

[shadow=black,left,300]T[/shadow]he summer sun glistened against the motionless lake, except for the occasional splashes from the fish. A warm, gentle breeze stirred the fir trees surrounding the lake. Birds chirped and flew above, some swooping down to try and have a chance to catch a fish. Sending ripples through the algae covered surface. Towards the shore a reflection of a dog skimmed the surface. The dog was a scrawny little thing, her ribs rip piling underneath her dirty pelt as she walked along the bank. Bloody paw prints trailed behind her as she drag ed her feet thought the muddy bank. Kali walked along the bank, her head hanging low. Her paws had cracked and had started bleeding but that wasn't the only pain, she felt as if she walked any longer that she might fall over. She had been traveling for many moon rises counting today. As Akeli walked along the bank the strong scent of rotten fish filled her nose reminding her of the hunger gnawing at her stomach. She hadn't eaten a decent meal for how long she couldn't remember, the only meal she did have were the few scraps she could find in humans bins. The hot summer sun shone down on the bank making it hot and humid. Heat waves rose up if you looked out in the distance. Akeli lifted her head to see figures rip piling in the distance. See squirted her eyes to try and get a better look, but the heat waves made them blur. She walked diagonally to go towards the trees in case she had to run and to see what they were. When she reached where the sand turned to rocks the figures became clearer, Dogs! Akeli let out a low whine and made a run for the trees, here paws tore on the rocks digging into her pads. The pain shooting up her legs telling her to stop, but she didn't. It combined with her hunger, tiredness and her aching limbs from traveling. The terrain below her started to turn to grass, but Akeli kept running until she reached the trees. Fl oping down and panting in fast gulps for air she looked at the dogs to see if any of them noticed her. She knew deep inside they probably heard the racket she had just cause running up thought the rocks, but at least she would have a head start. Laying on her side she tried to catch her breath, her tongue fl oped out of her mouth and hung on the side. Akeli sat up, ignoring the pain from her bloody paws and hide behind the tree, making sure they couldn't find her by sight. OOC ~ I'd appreciate it if you guys waited for me to post...? But I'll be leaving this thread, even though it was mine... I'm mainly leaving this thread because of the new school year. I will make a new thread with Jofur, but later. Sorry guys, school is a little hectic, and stuff.
