Cain awoke minutes after his dream, unsure of where he'd fallen asleep. The warmth of the sun set on his face as he yawned and pushed the breath from his chest. Grey lips pulled to each side as he pant, cooling himself. Cain peered up and watched the scattered clouds cover the shine of the sun. Looking about, Cain noticed each movement in the lining of trees. He felt the dryness on his nose, running his tongue across to feel the cool. The scatter of bugs flew about him, he felt them landing on his coat.
Cain didn't have much of a care for the little gnats. The light nap in the sun replenished his energy, after walking along all night. He had a simple fear of the streets, people walked the streets, and the people had the power. Cain traveled at night, and away from the streets; even if it took from his sleep. His copper eyes scanned the ground as he stood, feeling the small ache in his bones. He dipped his chest to the ground, and stretched his back with relief. His youth was his advantage at this point; only two years and yet fully grown.
His pelt was nearly all infused with dirt and mud. Cain didn't really mind the dirt, but it began to irritate his skin. The small sound of a crashing wave, the clatter of rocks; Cain got an idea. He trotted toward the waters edge, placing one paw in the water. Gently, he stepped into the water. His lips pulled into a smile; with a splash, he jumped into the water. Wild waves of water flew about around Cain. He kept jumping and splashing through the water till he was out of breath; he laid in the shallow waters to cool his skin from the beating sun and allow the chance to catch his breath.
He let out a sigh, thinking, wondering what he'd be doing if he still had his sister...or mother. How was he able to avoid capture when they couldn't? Beware the people and beware their kindness, his mother had used to say. She'd been right, if it weren't for the people then his mother and sister would be laying next to him enjoying the refreshing water.
He shook his head to rid it of the sad thoughts; he took in a mouthful of water and made himself into a fountain. He loved being odd, and enjoyed acting with such adolescence. It kept his mind clear and optimism for a better day in his mind. He laid there, his head just able to stay out of the water by using a nicely placed rock he'd found. There was not much else to do on hot lonely days.
He did have a subconscious want for company, something that only rose to the forefront of his mind on random days. This was one of those days, where he felt the urge, the need, for a companion. But he's gone without them for awhile; he wouldn't go looking for one now. He settled on the chance that one may happen to find him.

The young Berger Picard made his way slowly through the Chancellor areas. He had spent a good portion of the day just wandering and now as it seemed to be getting even hotter, he knew that he needed to get somewhere cooler. He walked slowly with a gimp as his leg was not really holding him up all too well right now, mostly due to him walking around on it for so long without much rest due to the heat. As his tongue lolled gently from the side of his mouth, the male pondered where he should go that would allow him to become the coolest.
His ears were perked up gently as they twisted and turned with the different sounds that emitted from the trees and other various surroundings. The shade was enough to cool him down so that he was not quite as hot. Either way, he was still hot enough that he was not so pleased with just shade. 'God damn, why does it have to be so effin' hot?' He thought to himself and continued to move forward. A light breeze moved around his fur, wisping it around his face and body before dropping it back down to its rightful place. 'Well... that would have felt good if it was actually a cool breeze.... rather than a warm one' He rolled his eyes, obviously displeased with the summer weather.
'How foolish the seasons make us canines. Sit here and wish all winter for the hot days of summer, but once those finally come, we all become too hot and pray once more for the cold winter. However, I suppose that it is the best way for the earth to keep us pleased with her changing... Although I would much rather just have a constant great weather season.' He allowed his mind to wander as he continued forward, allowing his pace to occasionally pick up before he decided it was too hard to exert that much effort and slowed himself once again.
His dark eyes watched as things went past him on either side and his ears continued to listen to the noises as they came toward him. His nostrils flared as he took in continuous scents around him, allowing the glorious county smells to overtake the terrible odors of the city that currently filled each. His tail dangled gently at his hocks as he continued to lengthen and shorten his strides, the heat waves filling his face softly before suddenly, the cool lake breeze of Lake Wilderness smashed into his face.
Paws dug into the dirt as he came to a full stop and his body tensed up for a moment. 'The lake? What a wonderful idea! I can cool off there and then there is sun and shade in case I get too hot or cool while I'm out of the water...' He thought and looked in the direction he knew the lake was. The shepherd took off once more, this time in nearly a gallop as he broke through the foliage and into the clearing around the lake. The sounds of the water came to his ears immediately and he took off in a full sprint for the shallow part of the water.
It was instant relief to his paws as the dog entered the water and his mouth shut as he dove in and ducked his ears back. Staying under for about half a second, he shoved himself quickly up so his head broke the water once more and shook his head to allow the water to leave his eyes. Moving back to the shore. He knew there was another dog there but did not currently care to pay attention to him. He was currently cooling off in the water, after all. As the water dripped from the tips of his coat, he looked toward the other dog. Shaking once he dipped his head in response to it being there.
"Heya, I'm Black Jack, and you are?" He called out as his tail waved over the water. His paws moved gently beneath him and his hurt leg instantly started feeling a tad bit better. Heading toward the other dog then sitting down in the shallows of the lake he allowed his muzzle to hold a soft greeting of a grin. His ears were perked on his head, one flopped over like usual as his tail moved softly under the water and his paws shifted beneath him against the sand. "Sorry to intrude on your privacy, I can head to the other side of the lake, if you would prefer. You see it is just so hot outside, I could really use some time to cool off." His toothy grinned flashed before dropping back down to his soft smile.

An empty field, soft grass tickling against his face, the scent of flowers rushed his nose, , and the cool, cool breeze brushed his fur. This was his paradise, an empty, calming, stress-free paradise. This image was his relief on an over-heated day.
Suddenly his paradise, and face, filled with water as a small wave splashed over him. The shock was enough for him to lift his head, accompanied with a gasp. "What the...," he said silently to himself as his head and ears turned in all directions; eyes shifting from side to side. The sound of soft water crashes were interrupted by the sounds of more thrashing.
'Maybe it's just the heat getting to me," he thought to himself. 'It's hot enough out here, and now I'm going delusional." He tried to blow the water from his nostrils, unsuccessfully. The frustration in not being able to smell was aggravating, it took his greatest sense away. He kept rapidly blowing air out his nose to clear it, until he heard a someone moving in the water.
Cain lifted his crown and his bodice soon followed. His rump hit the ground, noticing the other dog; finally able to breath again. 'At least I wasn't crazy, there's someone else.' "Heya, I'm Black Jack, and you are," the dog asked after a dip of the head.
Cain quickly shook out his coat; water dripped from each tendril of wiry hair. "Cain," he replied with a perk up in his voice. He returned Black Jack's grin, taking in a small relief of having company. "Sorry to intrude...cool off." Cain was convinced by Black Jack's smile that he was true, "Oh, no, it's alright," he tried to keep his cool. "It's not my lake," he joked, "and everyone could use a cool off with this sun."
Cain stood and walked about in the shallow water. "Seems it's getting hotter these days." He pawed at a couple pebbles, "I'm actually surprised it's not more crowded. You'd think the refreshing water would be the relief of every dog in these parts." He heard the rare rustle of leaves as a breeze rolled in. "If only they lasted," Cain commented and the air flow stopped as if on cue.
Cain regained his focus on his new company. He turned the the Berger Picard, "so what's your deal?" His tone was more curious, "sorry if I'm, so forward... It's been awhile since I've interacted with others." His grin was genuine.
