name: Aleksey
pronunciation: A-lek-say
alias: Alek
age: Four years
gender: Male
breed: Russian Wolfhound
appearance:
Alek is built for speed and endurance. With a deep chest, he can breathe in a lot more oxygen than another dog and can last much longer in a hunt. It curves up to the hindquarters, which are lean but powerful. His back has a slight depression behind the withers, due to his flexible spine that acts an elastic and saves energy while running. The shoulders are well defined and narrow, allowing for squeezes in tight spaces and easier navigation in thick underbrush. He is longer than he is tall, legs thin and long for maximum strides.
His paws are wide for his size with black pads, each toe having tufts of fur between them to prevent frostbite, and ended with deadly black claws that dig into the ground and insure a good grip. He can easily run through thick snow or deep water. They provide him with outstanding agility and maneuverability. The tail is fluffy and long, providing great balance and improving his ability to quickly change direction.
The head is set high on a long and powerful neck. The ears are small but sensitive and flop down preventing dust from getting in. The top of the head is quite flat and there is only a little depression between the forehead and the nose. The nose is slightly lower than the beginning of the muzzle and is black. It is extremely sensitive and allows him to pick up scents from miles. His eyes are a chocolaty brown and always seem to sparkle with joy. His narrow muzzle hides sharp and strong teeth that come together in a deadly bite. The muscles of his jaws being well-developed, his bite pressure is impressive.
His coat is white with a brown saddle across his back. It extends up to his head and around his eyes in a sort of mask. Different brown shades melt in his coat, which is silky and slightly curly. It enables him to withstand cold temperatures as well as hot ones. His coat becomes very thin near his legs and longer fur grows at the back of them.351
personality:
Alek is quite sociable. He runs with the pack and hates being alone. His pack instinct is very prominent and he is anxious without company. He is likes to meet new dogs and adores discovering new things. He usually is serious but when the situation requires it or depending on the company he's with, he will try to make a few jokes. He wouldn't act the same with pups than with a wise elderly dog. He is mostly quiet and a bit shy, but far from submissive. He makes his opinion count and thinks before saying anything. He has a view on things that sometimes surprises others. He looks at the situation on every angle before elaborating a plan to solve it. He is very strategic.
He has a soft spot for females and pups, and will be pretty gallant with the girls that catch his attention. He is playful at times and adores to run and jump. He also loves swimming, since his coat allows it. He is very active and can be cheeky by setting up pranks on the unsuspecting dog. He is very intelligent and a quick learner, and analyzes his mistakes so that he doesn't do them again. He finds it irresistible to chase small animals, it's an instinct bred into the species. He is tame with humans but tends to avoid them by fear they would call the pound.
He is very stubborn and can be slightly rebellious, but if you give him a good reason to do what you say, he will listen and understand. His English is terrible; he speaks with a thick accent, but he speaks Russian fluently. It can be an inhibitor to communication because some dogs can't understand what he is saying. He often gets frustrated at his accent and that makes him more determined to get his English right.315
history:
Born in Russia, Aleksey was raised by a loving mother and father and well cared for by a Russian farmer. He had space to run, to grow, to learn with his siblings, a brother and two sisters. He played all day in the Russian steppe that was his backyard. He was the fastest and the most enduring of his family, and had great potential as a hunting dog. At the age of five months, winter came and he became tougher to the cold. He started being trained as a hunting dog at that time. He was a difficult learner at first but the human found the right motivation and Alek became an eager student. He learned to hunt with a pack and hold down prey until his human arrived. He became strong and incredibly fast, with astonishing stamina. His owner was very proud of him.
At the age of one, his human started to bring him to competitions where he did very well. He won prizes and gained in fame. It was when his owner started doing competitions abroad that the problems came. At the age of two and a half, his owner brought him to a competition in the US. He beat his rival, and that didn't appeal to the other dog's owner. He arranged so that he could steal Alek, and in the middle of the night, at the hotel Aleksey and his human were staying, he came. Aleksey, who was sleeping on the doormat, wasn't careful enough, and went back to sleep.
The man picked him up and brought him to a pick-up truck, Alek too drowsy to think that anything was wrong. The man put him in the cab and drove away. It was only hours later, when the man dumped him on the side of the road, that Alek realised that he would never see his owner again and that he had been fooled. He wandered for weeks trying to find his way back, but never did. So he started his life as a stray like that.346
